Did you send your enquiry to too many traders?
Is there a limit of how many channels you can cover ? Of course not, you have the freedom to ask 20 traders if you want !! I still remember a famous Taiwanese owner will cover 30 channels to ask for a 100MT 380cst enquiry, and then dutch auction normally last 2-3 hours before they finally confirm the deal, so as a bunker buyer how many traders / supplier should i cover for one enquiry ??
The truth is you can send as much as you want as long as its time effective and how you want to manage the purchasing channels. In other hands you don’t want to only cover one or two and cant see the bigger picture or the real market level, especially some company like to use different brands under the same parental company.
One way to consider is you can at first send to a few supplier like (3-5), if all come back with similar prices then you just compare and take it from there, give counter to your decided channel. However if the price come back is kind of our of your expectation or even no quote, then you can further down send to few more people. In this case the physical supplier wont see same enquiry from 20 traders and lost interest ( yes they do, sometimes we act like a little college boy when the girls we like got too many pursers then we give up ), or just reply with “just come back with counter”.
Hope the above information helpful, until next time !
