Hope you don’t mind my cousin on board today

A recent case in a small port in South east Asia remind me the good old situation in Singapore : Ship representative or Owner representative

Its funny to see a ship rep on board as they are not surveyor, they are not third party, they are behaving as interest of the buyer and sometimes they act like Chief engineer , flipping the logbook like magazine in the hair salon, even though they only been on board for 3 hours.

One of my closed friend recently have this question” Why the supplier don’t accept ship rep on board ? if their operation is professional they shouldn’t afraid !”

My explanation is simple ,  imagine now there is a soccer match,  team China vs. Team France , now a random guy who work for the french team locker room come up and say : listen to my judgement, although there is no evidence of knowing what i am doing and it seems like i am acting on the other team’s interest, but if you play your game clean you should be okay with it “, so now do you accept this referee ?

My client jump up and say ” of course not !” , i say “here you go my friend.”

In any case i don’t agree the supplier and the buyer is in a competitive  but should be in co-operate frame, however  if there is doubt its OK to have a third party to monitor or simply go to other port which technology can assist like Mass flow meter in Singapore.

Until next time !
