An interesting topic talking in the community about Malaysia want to step up and challenge Singapore for the leading position of Asia bunkering hub , in my opinion it’s hard because
1. No. of supplier
There are currently less than 7 active physical supplier in major bunkering port like port Klang and Penang , compare to Singapore currently accredited supplier is 47 , number of supplier and bunker barge is much more in comparison.
2. Authority and port control
Singapore have invested time and money to build a reputable system in MFM and have a mutual regulation system. It’s not easy to get Malaysia to implement the same and even have the knowledge to check and monitor the MFM working condition in Malaysian bunker barges.
3. Infrastructure
Number of cargo players , storage tank in Singapore is much more than Malaysia . Even the volume go to Malaysia , they don’t have the capacity to cater the requirement in the region
So what Malaysia can win in this situation ? – wait for part 2
Until next time
