Why i don’t count cruise line out

After the outbreak of virus in Diamond princess, the ship is officially the world 3rd most infected “places”, obviously after the incident, the cruise business get hit like Joanna Jedrzejczyk on USF248. One of the longest-running floating restaurant in HK stopped operation, few domestic Japanese cruise lines are running out of business, however despite the negative emotional and bad news i personally still believe cruise business had a bright future

1. Aging of people

In addition to advancement of medicine and longer life expectancy of our generation, its not surprising that the senior generation is going to be the superstar of spending power. while we don’t expect must people after 70s interested in doing a bungee jump in new Zealand but a luxury chill out cruise experience might be attractive.

2. People are forgetful
everyone is crazy about the virus since FEB and no one even talk about we are on edge of World War 3 on early January. There are too many things happening in the world and the media are trying their best to grab our attention and eye ball with the next buzz word and threat. Although if you ask someone to join you in a cruise which most people might think you are crazy now, i personally think after 6 – 12 months people already talking next big things or next event and cruise business could back in normal

3. Chinese Power

The trend of travelling the world thru cruise are trending from Europe to China in recent years. According to research*, China’s annual growth for the cruise tourism market has exceeded 40 percent since 2006. It is expected to grow into the world’s largest cruise market by 2030, with 8 to 10 million customers per year, according to figures by the Shanghai International Shipping Institute. With the same aging problem as mentioned also with excellent infrastructure in most of the major ports in China, we will expect more sign and dining menu will special designed for the Chinese and therefore i still keep confident on the cruise business

Until next time
