Honesty is a automatic device which can do tank sounding for your vessel. It could determine the actual delivery volume and detect if supplier tricks are found. However, should you invest in this smart device ?
The problem of this device is similar to the problem of VNETS , ship representative and unknown surveyor. As per international practice, BDN figures is determined by bunker barge figures with opening / closing witness by both parties. Any vessel figures is strictly on reference only.
Imagine an order of bunkering 500MT, both parties measure the barge tank and agreed 500MT is delivered but “honesty” said its only 470MT. Anyone try to argue this to the physical supplier probably greeted with some laughter and an invoice of barge demurage.
In addition, if your main bunker port is Singapore and you want to use Honesty against the MFM it could also be a waste of time as most trader/supplier will offer basis ” BDN figures basis MFM barge figures final and binding.”
Yet for those shipper who want to use it as a cross check reference against their regular operation it could be a useful tool in that context.
