Jet fuels for my bulker ??

Will my ship move like a jet ?

Recently many sources are reporting that jet fuel is  going in a price downhill and some can be even be used for blending for fuel oil for ships . Is that a good idea to use jet fuel as bunker ?

As we know from high school chemistry , jet fuel and bunkers are the product of cracking of crude oil, while jet fuel is on the high end side , bunkers are on the second lowest end,  just slightly better than bitumen. It sounds a good deal for the shippers if they pay the price of bunkers but getting the jet fuel. It’s as happy as paying a McDonald burger but received a shake shack instead.

However , the major problem for jet fuel into bunkers is it will decrease the flash point much lower. 8-10 years ago in a major south East Asian port, several cargo  are found to blend the fuel with kerosene, upon testing the flash point is 10 degree lower than ISO and it result in a series of debunker episode. Therefore don’t be too excited to know you might have jet fuel in your bunkers and finger cross it’s still within ISO spec

Until next time
